The year-2038 problem: systems that store timestamps as a signed 32-bit integer will overflow on 19 January 2038 03:14:07 UTC. Modern 64-bit storage (used by most current databases and languages) is unaffected.

How to use the Free Timestamp & Epoch Converter

  1. Paste a Unix timestamp — seconds or milliseconds, detected for you.
  2. Read the date in UTC, in your local timezone and in the extra timezone you choose.
  3. Or switch to the other direction and pick a date and time to get its timestamp.
  4. Copy whichever format you need: ISO 8601, RFC 2822 or the raw epoch value.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Unix timestamp?
The number of seconds elapsed since 1 January 1970 00:00:00 UTC, ignoring leap seconds. Many systems use milliseconds instead, which is why the values are 1000 times larger.
Seconds or milliseconds — how does it tell?
By magnitude. Ten-digit values are treated as seconds, thirteen-digit values as milliseconds, and you can override the choice.
How are timezones handled?
Conversion uses your browser's timezone database, including daylight saving rules for the date in question.
What is the year 2038 problem?
Systems storing timestamps in a signed 32-bit integer overflow on 19 January 2038. Modern 64-bit storage is unaffected.
